Looking Back at Kickstart 5

As we are getting ready for Kickstart 6, our summer BBQ, it’s about time we did a little recap of our last meet, which took place back during a surprisingly nice sunday in early February 2025. You may have already read the great article in Amiga Addict covering this meet, but here’s an extra look at what went on. A big thank you to Mark White, who’s excellent photography is being used here. You can see all of Mark’s photos from the meet over on our Facebook group.

As always, our home venue of Ottershaw Village Hall was absolutely banged out for our first meet of the year.

There was a very diverse mix of machines and users at the meet, with everything from original tower hardware (see below) and an array of customised and modernised Amigas, as well as a few interesting non-Amiga machines that managed to sneak in as well.

Our games competition was the ever-popular Sensible Soccer, which we played on a knockout cup turnament to crown an eventual winner, who took home our first every Sensible Soccer winners trophy.

Machine of the meet went to this remarkable Amiga 3000T – as we know, not many of these were sold in the first place and even fewer survive today. Even fewer still are in this great condition. It was a real treat to see this monster of an Amiga tower at the meet and to be able to have a good look inside and out, as well as play around with it.

A well-deserved machine of the meet winner.

In addition to a hearty pizza lunch, no Kickstart meet is complete without our trademark cake, a desert so powerful and comical it is capable of offending people within a 150 mile radius of its deliciousness (true story!).

A big thank you to Retro Lemon and Amiga Addict for coming to our meet and bringing a wide selection of magazines, merch and Amiga upgrades for sale.

Our next meet is the all important BBQ meet on 21st June.

Kickstart 6 – The Royal Amiga BBQ

Did you know that Commodore UK had a Royal Warrant, as a supplier of computing products to the Royal Family. We believe that Queen Elizabeth II had an A3000T and was very adept with Octamed!

In recognition of 40 years of the Amiga, we’ve decided to make our 2025 Kickstart BBQ a Royal Amiga BBQ. We are not entirely sure what that means yet either, but it will almost certainly involve a lot of people wearing crowns, lots of Amigas, gaming contests, guests, great food on the grill and great company.

Table tickets sold out for the BBQ back in February, but we have a handful of non-table tickets still available if you want to join us for what is undoubtedly the hottest ticket of the UK Amiga year!
